Los Angeles, Real Estate and 5th Graders

Real Estate gives me the opportunity of taking mornings off from time to time to attend field trips and events with my daughter Kyra. Today, I was able to drive six fifth graders all of which were girls.

We drove to The Griffith Park Observatory located in the hills of Los Feliz. One of my favorite neighborhoods in Los Angeles. I have visited the park several times over the years I lived there, but today was special.

As we drove through the hills, the girls now 10 and 11 were able to appreciate the beautiful homes Los Feliz has to offer. Each home different from the other, the girls shared what they liked and disliked about each home. They were playful and appreciative of this neat neighborhood and its vintage look. They were especially surprised when we arrived at the top of the hill to see the Hollywood sign up close. Well, close enough not to squint.

On the way back, the girls asked me to slow down to admire the neighborhood once more. After exchanging information and notes about each home through a 5th grade point of view, they went on to hear their own IPods and talk music.

It was until I returned to my office that I came to appreciate 5th Graders even more. I came across a You Tube video called “La County 5th Graders Perform Dance to “Simple Gifts”. After viewing, I than realized how special this age really is. They are innocent, impressionable, opinionated, honest, inquisitive, child like and fun. As a parent of a 10 year old I often say in truth “every age is great”, and it is. After today, I don’t know…..tweens are pretty special.

I also received a text from one of the tweens asking me for a picture I took today, of the two beautiful homes we all agreed we liked. I’m obviously tickled by this request. Who knows, we may have mini Real Estate agents in training!
