September in the South Bay: The Local’s Guide to Living Where Everyone Else Vacations

Beach Volleyball, Community Events, Food, Wine and the Last Golden Stretch of Summer

One of my favorite things about September in the South Bay is that summer doesn’t really end.

The crowds shift. The evenings become a little softer. Routines return.

But the beach is still the beach.

And September 2026 gives us plenty of reasons to get outside and remember why living here is so special.

Fiesta Hermosa | September 5–7

Labor Day weekend brings Fiesta Hermosa back to Hermosa Beach.

It’s exactly the kind of event that captures what people love about the South Bay: community, music, food and a beach-town atmosphere that feels genuinely local.

Hermosa Beach Open | September 10–13

Beach volleyball is part of Hermosa’s DNA, and the 2026 Hermosa Beach Open brings professional competition back to the sand September 10–13.

The event is scheduled to feature high-level men’s and women’s competition with free admission — one of those quintessential South Bay weekends that reminds you this isn’t simply somewhere people visit to go to the beach.

The beach is part of everyday life here.

Emergency Preparedness Fair | September 19

Homeownership is also about being prepared.

The City of Manhattan Beach has an Emergency Preparedness Fair scheduled for September 19, making this a good month to revisit emergency supplies and household plans.

Manhattan Beach Food & Wine Festival | September 25–26

For something a little more indulgent, the Manhattan Beach Food & Wine Festival is scheduled for September 25 and 26.

Great food, beautiful surroundings and September evenings in the South Bay are a fairly unbeatable combination.

Downtown Manhattan Beach Car Show | September 27

Close out the month downtown with the Manhattan Beach Car Show on September 27.

Classic cars, local businesses and a Sunday near the beach, very South Bay.

This Is What “Location” Really Means

Real estate descriptions use the word location constantly.

But location isn’t simply distance from the ocean or a price-per-square-foot calculation.

It’s waking up Saturday morning and deciding to walk to an event.

It’s knowing your favorite coffee shop.

It’s running into neighbors downtown.

It’s being able to watch professional volleyball on the sand one weekend and attend a food and wine event the next.

The house matters.

But ultimately, we’re buying the life around it too.
